Contact

Syberg first went to Funen’s Head in December 1901 with his artist colleague and close friend Johannes Larsen. There, he was greatly enamored by the peculiarly violent nature, and wrote home to his wife “I have never, ever before been in a strange place where the scenery and nature have entered the shell upon me immediately, to such an extent as it has here.”

The Syberg family returned to Funen’s Head in the following years, and this piece was painted the following year. Here, we see the northern cliff of Funen’s Head painted from water – probably aboard a boat. One must therefore sail to get the same view as Fritz Syberg did one day in 1902.
