Christmas exhibition at Toldboden
Come to the Christmas exhibition about the cultural-historical development of Christmas trees in and around Kerteminde. It is at Toldboden, and there is free entry.
In Denmark we celebrate Christmas on December 24 every year. For most, it is a time that either arouses the joy of anticipation or sighs over the same traditions, year after year.
The Christmas that most of us celebrate today is no more than 200 years old. The Christmas tree festival originally originated in Germany and slowly spread to Denmark during the 19th century. It wasn't until 100 years ago that the Christmas tree party became a fixture for most Danes.
Since the beginning of the 19th century, Christmas has developed considerably. The exhibition is a journey through the cultural-historical development of Christmas trees with eight events in history that tell about the Danes' Christmas.
